One thing is if you have channels in predefined categories (say 01-09 are user defined shortcuts, 10-19 are media apps like jellyfin emby or plex, 20-29 are game apps like Retroarch, 30-39 are webapps like Netfilx) you can put together a library of the most popular apps with predefined channel numbers (which can be changed or overridden), and say if you enter the number for jellyfin but jellyfin is not installed it can prompt and ask if you would like to install jellyfin or assign a different app to that number. |

Basically, I was thinking it would be cool to emulate a Cable TV interface and TV menus.
So the main menu would be like a TV channel guide, where applications are in rows where they have a number, the logo, the name, and a short description
Many USB remotes have a number pad so it would make sense to use it, we could have common apps assigned to a specific number so you can just type the number to launch that particular app

Additionally maybe we could have a small popup that can be launched with a hotkey, that's designed to mimic the channel/input switcher that older TVs have. so pressing the hotkey will launch it and you can either type the number code for the app you wanted to switch to, see which apps are running and either switch to them or close them, jump to the previous app with a quick click, or go back to the launcher
