Thumb Ledger

Thumb Ledger is a mobile-first bookkeeping web app for fast daily expense tracking. It is designed around one-handed phone use: record an amount with a custom numeric keypad, then step through simple tag screens for category, item name, location, spending subject, and necessity.

What You Can Do

• Create multiple ledgers for personal, family, travel, or project spending.
• Record expenses quickly with a touch-friendly wizard instead of the system keyboard.
• Track categories, item names, spending locations, spending subjects, and optional necessity labels.
• Use one currency per ledger to keep each book simple and predictable.
• Review monthly totals, category breakdowns, and budget progress.
• Configure recurring expenses such as rent, utilities, subscriptions, or loan payments.
• Share a ledger with other users as read-only or writable members.
• Receive in-app notifications for share requests, approvals, and shared-ledger activity.
• Submit product suggestions and optionally make them public for votes.
• Use the app in English, Simplified Chinese, or Japanese.
• Add the app to a phone home screen as a PWA.

Quick Start

Requirements

• Docker Desktop or Docker Engine
• Git

Run Locally

cp .env.example .env
docker compose -f docker-compose.dev.yml up --build

The default .env.example values are intended for local development only.

Production Notes

Production deployment uses Docker Compose with:

• FastAPI backend
• PostgreSQL database
• nginx reverse proxy
• prebuilt frontend static files
• optional Cloudflare Zero Trust Tunnel

Project Status

Thumb Ledger is under active development. The current build focuses on a practical first version for everyday mobile expense recording and shared household bookkeeping.
