Release Notes

WordPress/gutenberg (@wordpress/e2e-test-utils-playwright)

v2.1.0

Compare Source

v2.0.0

Compare Source

Breaking Changes
  • Increase the minimum required Node.js version to v22.19.0. The lighthouse dependency is now ^13.4.1, which requires it. Learn more about Node.js releases (#81916).
  • Editor.switchEditorTool(): Remove the helper. It clicked the Write/Design "Tools" toolbar button, which the editor no longer renders since #72193 (#82677).
New Features
  • Admin.visitSiteEditor(): When the GUTENBERG_E2E_SITE_EDITOR_V2 environment variable is set, visit the extensible site editor (admin.php?page=site-editor-v2) instead of site-editor.php, translating the classic query args to the equivalent v2 route, and wait for the lazily loaded editor to finish initializing on edit routes. RequestUtils.setGutenbergExperiments() keeps the gutenberg-extensible-site-editor experiment enabled in that mode so specs that reset experiments do not turn the v2 editor off mid-run.
Enhancements
  • Widen the @types/node peer dependency to >=20, so consumers on Node 22 or 24 type definitions no longer hit a peer resolution conflict (#82616).
Bug Fixes
  • Metrics.initWebVitals(): Resolve web-vitals from the installed dependency so published consumers can load it outside the Gutenberg monorepo. Update to 4.2.4 to fix interaction counts after back/forward cache restores and prevent repeated input-listener registration (#81916).
  • Editor.saveSiteEditorEntities(): Wait for the save button to mount before deciding between its Save and Publish variants, instead of sampling visibility immediately — the extensible site editor only renders it once an entity is dirty.
Internal
  • setGutenbergExperiments: Remove the special handling for the removed active_templates experiment (#82241).

v1.54.0

Compare Source

v1.53.0

Compare Source

Bug Fixes
  • Metrics.startTracing(): Run a trivial script in every frame once tracing is on, to absorb the isolate interrupt that enabling the V8 sampling profiler queues. Its cost otherwise lands in the first thing the test does, usually the interaction being measured, and grows through a spec's iterations: a stable 220ms interaction reported anywhere from 200ms to 650ms (#81264).
  • Metrics.getSelectionEventDurations(): Dispatches that nest inside another dispatch now contribute only the time not already covered by it, so summing the returned durations no longer counts the nested work twice.

v1.52.0

Compare Source

Bug Fixes
  • Metrics.getSelectionEventDurations(): Also collect pointerup and selectionchange durations, and omit event types that did not fire. Selecting a block within an editing host no longer fires focus/focusin, which made the metric report zero.

v1.51.0

Compare Source

v1.50.0

Compare Source

v1.49.0

Compare Source

Enhancements
  • Added RequestUtils.resetThemeGlobalStyles() to reset the current theme's user global styles to an empty config for test isolation.
Bug Fixes
  • Resolve root-relative page.goto() URLs against the full baseURL, including any subdirectory path, so tests work against WordPress installs served from a subdirectory.

v1.48.1

Compare Source

v1.48.0

Compare Source

v1.47.0

Compare Source

WordPress/gutenberg (@wordpress/eslint-plugin)

v27.0.0

Compare Source

Breaking Changes
  • Switch test-unit from Jest to @vitest/eslint-plugin recommended rules with explicit imports at the 27.0.0 boundary. Jest consumers must configure eslint-plugin-jest directly. (#82843).
Enhancements
  • Update use-recommended-components deprecation message for __experimentalZStack to point to writing CSS (#83344).
  • Update use-recommended-components deprecation message for ResponsiveWrapper to point to the CSS aspect-ratio property (#83347).
  • Update use-recommended-components deprecation message for __experimentalScrollable to point to writing CSS (#83273).
  • Update use-recommended-components deprecation message for __experimentalDivider to point to Separator subcomponents and design tokens (#83040).
  • Update use-recommended-components rule to mark Select and SelectControl from @wordpress/ui as recommended (#83030).
  • recommended: Apply the TypeScript rules and parser to .mts and .cts files (#83071).
  • recommended: Resolve imports through .mjs, .cjs, .mts and .cts, and exempt .d.mts and .d.cts from the TypeScript resolver settings alongside .d.ts (#83071).
  • recommended: Report type-only imports of undeclared packages in import/no-extraneous-dependencies (#83336).
  • no-i18n-in-save: Recognise the .mjs, .cjs, .mts and .cts spellings of save and deprecated (#83071).

v26.0.0

Compare Source

Breaking Changes
  • The esnext ruleset no longer configures a parser, so JavaScript and JSX files are parsed by ESLint's default parser instead of @babel/eslint-parser (#82144).
Enhancements
  • Update use-recommended-components rule to prefer @wordpress/ui Field and Fieldset over legacy @wordpress/components BaseControl (#82095).
Bug Fixes
  • Apply test-only DOM global exceptions to both JavaScript and JSX test files (#80990).
  • Fix no-unused-vars-before-return false positive on variables used only in JSX (#82144).
Internal
  • Update eslint-plugin-jest to 29.16.5 (#82181).

v25.10.0

Compare Source

Bug Fixes
  • Remove fixable option from i18n-no-flanking-whitespace rule #70279.
Enhancements
  • Update use-recommended-components rule to mark SearchableChipSelect and SearchableChipSelectControl from @wordpress/ui as recommended (#80980).
  • Update use-recommended-components rule to mark Autocomplete, Field, and Fieldset from @wordpress/ui as recommended (#80636).
  • Allow the public @wordpress/ui keyboard shortcut utilities in the use-recommended-components rule. (#81826)
  • Update use-recommended-components rule to mark Input, InputControl, and InputLayout from @wordpress/ui as recommended, and to prefer @wordpress/ui InputControl over legacy @wordpress/components InputControl and TextControl (#81658).
  • The use-recommended-components rule now allows ControlWithError and ValidityIndicator from @wordpress/ui. (#81574)

v25.9.0

Compare Source

Enhancements
  • The dependency-group rule's "never" mode now recognizes dependency comments regardless of capitalization or a trailing period while preserving other comments. (#81246)
  • Update use-recommended-components rule to allow Calendar and RangeCalendar from @wordpress/ui (#81337).

v25.8.0

Compare Source

Enhancements
  • Update use-recommended-components rule to flag Animate, Flex, FlexBlock, FlexItem, ResponsiveWrapper, TabbableContainer, and __experimentalDivider, __experimentalElevation, __experimentalGrid, __experimentalScrollable, __experimentalSpacer, __experimentalSurface, and __experimentalView from @wordpress/components as not recommended (#80754).
  • Updated use-recommended-components deprecation messages for Animate and __experimentalSurface to point to design tokens (#80931, #80943).

v25.7.0

Compare Source

Enhancements
  • Update use-recommended-components rule to allow Skeleton from @wordpress/ui (#79671).

v25.6.0

Compare Source

v25.5.1

Compare Source

v25.5.0

Compare Source

Enhancements
  • Update use-recommended-components rule to prefer Tooltip from @wordpress/ui over @wordpress/components (#78693).

v25.4.1

Compare Source

v25.4.0

Compare Source

v25.3.0

Compare Source

Enhancements
  • Update use-recommended-components rule to allow Icon and Tabs from @wordpress/ui (#78365, #78442).
  • Extended use-recommended-components to flag not-recommended components imported via unlock( privateApis ) destructuring (#78451).
WordPress/gutenberg (@wordpress/scripts)

v36.0.0

Compare Source

Breaking Changes
  • Switch test-unit-js to consumer-installed Vitest 5 and Vite 7/8 at the 36.0.0 boundary. Run once by default, discover consumer Vitest/Vite config, and use Vitest lint defaults for test/spec files. Keep test-unit-jest as a maintenance-only adapter for consumer-installed Jest, with no scheduled removal. Remove the bundled Jest dependencies, preset config, Babel transformer, and GitHub Actions reporter. Retire the Jest preset and console package source; published versions remain available. Jest projects must install their own dependencies and configure the published preset if needed. See the migration guide. (#82843).

  • Require Node.js ^22.22.2 || ^24.15.0 || >=26.0.0 and update the bundled markdownlint-cli from ^0.31.1 to ^0.49.1, which moves markdownlint from 0.25 to 0.41. lint-md-docs now runs the rules added since then (MD051 through MD060) by default, so projects may see new reports. The header rule aliases (for example header-increment) no longer work in configuration files; use the heading names (#81917).

  • lint-style: Use stylelint's resolveConfig for config detection instead of a static extension list, supporting all current and future config file formats without manual maintenance overhead. Note that resolveConfig also searches ancestor directories and the global config directory (~/.config/stylelint), so a project with no local config may now pick up an unrelated config found there instead of the bundled default (#79280).

Enhancements
  • check-engines: Check only the tools listed in engines, instead of always passing --node and --npm. Without an engines field in the project, it now checks only the Node.js version (#83326).
  • lint-md-docs: Detect .markdownlint.jsonc so the bundled default config is not used when one is present (#81917).
  • format: Format .cjs and .mjs files when expanding a directory (#82731).
  • format: Format .cts and .mts files when expanding a directory (#83071).
  • The default ESLint config now lints .jsx, .ts, .tsx, .mts and .cts files, which ESLint's own file discovery skips (#83071).
  • build and start: Discover .cjs, .cts and .mts entry points, resolve them from extensionless imports, and transpile .cjs and .cts modules (#83071).
  • The bundled wp-prettier dependency has been upgraded from 3.0.3 to 3.9.6 (#82731).
Bug Fixes
  • Update the bundled webpack to ^5.111.0, which fixes a code-generation regression in webpack 5.110.3 that can make production bundles fail at startup (#82698).

v35.0.0

Compare Source

Breaking Changes
  • Require Node.js ^20.19.0 || >=22.13.0 and upgrade the bundled Stylelint to ^17.14.1 (#80738).
Bug Fixes
  • test-playwright: Install browsers with the bundled @playwright/test CLI, so they match the Playwright that runs the tests. A bare npx playwright could resolve another version, or download one (#82331).
  • build: Strip JavaScript and TypeScript source extensions from legacy positional entry names so generated output uses names such as index.js instead of index.tsx.js or index.jsx.js (#80990).
Enhancements
  • Include .jsx unit tests in the default lint configuration (#80990).
Internal
  • Update bundled Jest packages to 30.5.0 (#82181).
  • Remove unused dependency jest-environment-node (#82103).

v34.2.0

Compare Source

v34.1.0

Compare Source

Bug Fixes
  • Set Sass's charset option to false so production builds no longer emit a UTF-8 BOM in the middle of the extracted CSS (#81383).

v34.0.0

Compare Source

v33.0.0

Compare Source

Breaking Changes
  • The test-e2e command now runs the Playwright-based end-to-end test runner instead of Puppeteer (test-playwright remains available as an alias). Removed the Puppeteer test environment and configuration (jest-environment-puppeteer, jest-e2e.config.js, puppeteer.config.js) along with the puppeteer-core and expect-puppeteer dependencies. Puppeteer-specific options (e.g. --puppeteer-interactive, --puppeteer-devtools) are no longer supported (#60357).
Enhancements
  • Widen React peer dependency ranges to ^18 || ^19 to support both React 18 and React 19 environments (#80024).
  • Update stylelint to ^16.26.1 (#79648).
  • Widen the @playwright/test peer dependency to >=1 and mark it optional, so consumers aren't forced to bump Playwright or satisfy it under strict peer deps (#78632).

v32.5.1

Compare Source

v32.5.0
